Local area college is seeking a motivated and dedicated Cafeteria Worker/ Line Cook to join our food service team. The ideal candidate will be responsible for preparing and cooking meals for students, faculty, and staff in a fast-paced and dynamic environment. Reports To: Cafeteria Manager or Food Service Supervisor
Key Responsibilities:
Food Preparation & Cooking: Prepare and cook meals from a set menu or daily specials, following established recipes and guidelines. Ensure all dishes are served hot and fresh.
Line Cooking: Manage the food line during meal service, ensuring that food is served promptly and correctly. Prepare ingredients for cooking and assembly.
Menu Knowledge: Familiarize yourself with menu items, daily specials, and nutritional information, ensuring that all meals meet dietary and allergen requirements.
Quality Control: Ensure food quality and presentation are consistent, and handle food in a way that adheres to health and safety regulations.
Food Safety: Follow strict food safety standards, including proper handling, cooking, and storage techniques to prevent contamination.
Collaboration: Work closely with other cafeteria workers, servers, and staff to ensure efficient service during busy meal periods.
Cleaning & Maintenance: Clean and sanitize cooking equipment, utensils, and workstations throughout the day. Ensure the kitchen remains tidy and organized.
Inventory Management: Assist with stock rotation and inventory management, ensuring that ingredients and supplies are always available for meal preparation.
Qualifications:
Education: High school diploma or equivalent required. Culinary training or food service experience is a plus.
Experience: At least 1-2 years of experience in a food service or cooking environment preferred.
Skills:
Ability to follow recipes and cook to order.
Strong attention to detail and quality control.
Ability to work in a fast-paced kitchen environment.
Team player with good communication skills.
Basic knowledge of food safety practices (ServSafe certification is a plus).
Physical Requirements:
Ability to stand for long periods (up to 8 hours).
Ability to lift up to 40 pounds.
Comfort working with kitchen equipment, including ovens, stoves, and knives.
Ability to handle heat and noise in a busy kitchen environment.
